Ficus elastica (more commonly known as a rubber plant, rubber tree or rubber tree plant) is a popular houseplant because of its waxy leaves and larger-than-life appearance. Rubber plants can grow up to 100 feet in their native homeland of Southeast Asia.
As a domesticated houseplant, rubber plants grow anywhere between six to ten feet tall.
What is rubber tapping?
Rubber tapping is the process by which latex is collected from a rubber tree.
How do we do this tapping ?
An incision is made in the tree's bark, which cuts through the latex vessels, from which the product then flows
The standard method of tapping is to score the tree with a knife for half the circumference of the trunk, slanting the cut down from left to right at an angle of 30° starting at the highest point convenient to the tapper.
Each subsequent cut is made immediately below its predecessor. Trees are often rested for a period after heavy tapping.
How often rubber trees are tapped?
Rubber trees are tapped about once every two days, yielding a cupful of latex, containing approximately 50 grams (1.7 ounces) of solid rubber, each time.
What is the best time for rubber tapping ?
The work is done at night or in the early morning before the day's temperature rises, so the latex will drip longer before coagulating and sealing the cut.
How many rubber trees can planted across per acre?
we can plant around 180-200 trees per acre
When does the production commences?
Production commences when a tree is 5 or 6 years old; with care, the tree’s useful life may extend to more than 20 years.
